1980’s insurance broker Brett and Randall’s influence on Cornerstone

My parents set up a small personal lines insurance brokerage in Birstall, Leicester in 1971 called K & M Lee predominantly providing low cost motor insurance for the newly arrived Datsun’s that were being sold by Ken Ives motors from a new show room off Abbey Lane. Their brokerage expanded into shop and office package business with the support of Eagle Star, Guardian Royal Exchange and Norwich Union inspectors who would provide great technical and underwriting support.

Commercial insurance was often the preserve of larger more established brokers in Leicester until the arrival of Brett and Randall in 1982. Their offices opened on Melton Road, Leicester and I recall their growth from humble beginnings to what was a £50 Million gross written premium brokerage under the expert guidance of Ashwin Mistry OBE and his team.

What made Brett and Randall such an important influence on me and my business was their willingness to support local business and understand their needs. There was little chance to win clients from Brett and Randall as they offered their clients a first class team of account executives to sort out the renewals, new quotations and claims.

Cornerstone was established in 2010 and has adapted a Brett and Randall style along with a good deal of my parents successful business traits that served them well for 35 years. We offer our clients a dedicated executive to look after all aspects of the insurance from review to claims support. Clients are want to know they are in good hands and that they can get things sorted even out of normal office hours.
